# Voice Notes: AI-Cloned Voice for Outreach at Scale

> Set up your AI voice clone, add voice note steps to campaigns, and send personalized 30-second audio messages that get 3× more replies than text.

Voice notes feel personal in a way that text simply cannot replicate. When a lead hears your actual voice — calling them by name, referencing their company, asking a relevant question — it triggers a very different reaction than the hundredth templated message they've received this month. LinkInList clones your voice from a short recording sample and uses it to generate personalized voice notes automatically, at every step of your campaign, for every lead on your list. Voice notes can be delivered as native LinkedIn voice messages or as WhatsApp audio messages, both of which surface audio prominently in the messaging UI.

## Why Voice Notes Work

Most outreach is text. Voice notes are rare, which means they stand out — and the results reflect that.

## Setting Up Your Voice Clone

Before you can use voice notes in a campaign, you need to record a voice sample so LinkInList can build your voice clone. This is a one-time setup that takes about five minutes.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Voice Settings">
    Go to [app.linkinlist.com/settings/voice](https://app.linkinlist.com/settings/voice). You'll see the **Voice Clone** panel with a recording prompt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the sample script">
    LinkInList provides a sample script designed to capture a wide range of your vocal patterns — cadence, tone, emphasis, and natural pauses. Read it aloud naturally. Don't try to sound different from how you normally speak; the goal is to capture your authentic voice.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record your sample">
    Click **Start Recording** and read the script. Aim for **at least 2 minutes** of continuous audio. Longer samples produce higher-quality clones. Record in a quiet room, close to your microphone or laptop.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit and process">
    Click **Submit Sample**. Your voice clone will be ready within a few minutes. You'll receive an in-app notification when processing is complete.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Preview your clone">
    Once ready, click **Preview Voice** to hear a sample phrase rendered in your cloned voice. If it doesn't sound right, see [Re-Recording Your Voice Sample](#re-recording-your-voice-sample) below.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Your voice data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption and is never shared with third parties or used to train any external AI models. Your voice clone is exclusive to your account and cannot be accessed by any other user.

## How AI Generates Each Voice Note

Once your voice clone is set up and a lead reaches a voice note step in your campaign, here's what happens automatically:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Script generation">
    The AI writes a personalized script for that specific lead — typically 60–90 words, designed to be delivered in under 30 seconds. It uses the same lead research that powers AI Personalization (profile, posts, company news) to make the script relevant and specific.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Voice synthesis">
    The personalized script is rendered as audio using your cloned voice. The AI preserves your natural cadence, pacing, and inflection as closely as possible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review (optional)">
    If Human Review is enabled on the voice note step, the generated audio appears in your review queue for you to listen to and approve before it sends.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Delivery">
    The voice note is sent as a native voice message on the channel you've selected — appearing in the LinkedIn or WhatsApp conversation exactly as if you recorded and sent it manually.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Adding a Voice Note Step to a Campaign

You can add a voice note to any position in a campaign sequence. Most users place it as the third or fourth step, after an initial connection and one or two text messages have established some context.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your campaign">
    Navigate to **Campaigns**, select the campaign you want to edit, and click the **Sequence** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a new step">
    Click **Add Step** at the point in the sequence where you want the voice note to fire.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Voice Note as the step type">
    In the step type selector, choose **Voice Note**. Then select the delivery channel — **LinkedIn** or **WhatsApp**. The voice note editor will open.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write your base script">
    Write the script the AI will use as a foundation for personalization. Keep it under 90 words. Include a `{{hook}}` placeholder where you want the AI to insert a personalized reference, and end with a clear question.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure personalization and review">
    Toggle AI personalization on and choose your depth setting. Optionally enable Human Review if you want to listen to each note before it sends.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the delay">
    Choose how many days after the previous step this voice note should fire.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Voice Note Best Practices

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Keep scripts under 30 seconds">
    Thirty seconds of audio is roughly 70–80 words spoken at a natural pace. Leads are much more likely to play a voice note through to the end if it's short. If your script is over 90 words, trim it — every word should earn its place.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Use a casual, conversational tone">
    Voice notes that sound like a formal sales pitch feel robotic and off-putting. Write your script the way you'd actually talk to someone at a networking event — relaxed, genuine, and direct. Contractions are good. Full sentences that nobody says out loud are bad.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Always end with a question">
    Ending with a specific, easy-to-answer question dramatically increases reply rates. *"Does that kind of challenge sound familiar?"* or *"Would it be worth 15 minutes to explore?"* are both strong closes. Open-ended questions with no clear answer prompt procrastination.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Don't script every word too rigidly">
    The AI needs a little flexibility to personalize naturally. If your script is so tightly written that there's no room to insert a personalized reference, the output can feel awkward. Leave one clear `{{hook}}` moment for the AI to work with.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Match the channel's norms">
    LinkedIn voice notes and WhatsApp voice messages are both native audio formats, but the audiences and contexts differ. LinkedIn voice notes tend to work best in a professional, direct tone. WhatsApp voice messages can be slightly warmer and more conversational, reflecting the more personal nature of that channel.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Record in a consistent environment">
    Your voice clone was built from a recording in a specific environment. If the room acoustics change significantly between your original sample and how the AI renders your voice, there can be subtle inconsistencies. Consistency in your recording setup improves output quality.
  </Accordion>

## Re-Recording Your Voice Sample

If you're not satisfied with your voice clone quality, you can re-record your sample at any time to improve it.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Voice Settings">
    Navigate to [app.linkinlist.com/settings/voice](https://app.linkinlist.com/settings/voice) and click **Re-record Sample**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record a longer, higher-quality sample">
    For best results, aim for **3–4 minutes** of audio this time. Record in a quiet space with minimal background noise, ideally using a headset or external microphone rather than your laptop's built-in mic.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Submit and preview">
    Submit the new sample and wait for processing. Once complete, preview the clone again before re-enabling voice note steps in your campaigns.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Read with natural variation — vary your pace, add emphasis where you naturally would, and don't speak in a flat monotone. The more expressive your sample, the more natural your clone will sound when delivering personalized scripts.
</Tip>

<Warning>
  Re-recording replaces your existing voice clone. Any active campaigns with voice note steps will automatically use the new clone for all future sends. Voice notes that have already been sent are not affected.
</Warning>
